However, before we go any further, I've got a confession to make.

Not too long ago, I wasn't serious about my family's safety.

Sounds crazy right? Bear with me for a second and I'll explain.

Sure, I said I was serious about my family's safety, but I had the
"everyone-else" mentality. Psychologists call it an "invincibility"
complex.

I thought "everyone else" was going to get hit by a disaster. But not
me. And sure as hell not my family.

Things like that just don't happen to us.

But, after the Haitian Earthquake things really hit home.

We live in dangerous times.

Here's what I saw when I looked at 2010.

Since 1995 the frequency & severity of
storms has drastically increased.
* Jan. 2010 - The 6.5 magnitude Eureka Earthquake hit California (the
Haitian Earthquake was only .5 higher)!
* Feb. 2010 - Our Nation's Capital & the entire northeast were rocked
by the Second North American Blizzard, which stopped traffic,
knocked out power and even took life.
* Apr. 2010 - The freak tornado outbreak that stretched across the
Midwest and spawned 60+ confirmed tornadoes in 48 hours!
* May 2010 - Tennessee is bombarded with double its record rainfall
(from 170mm to 345 mm) damaging and destroying property, even as
far as Nashville!
* Jun. 2010 - Arkansas is hit by at least 150mm of rain in a mere
hours, raising the little Mississippi 23 feet - responsible for
more deaths.
* Jul. 2010 - California wildfires destroy 16,460 acres of property
(that's enough land for 32,920 homes)!
* Sep. 2010 - Vermillion 380 Platform explodes in the Gulf of Mexico,
spilling more oil and driving prices higher!
* And the year isn't over yet!

Almost every month there has been a major disaster.

Fortunately, I haven't been hit by much, or at least nothing major.

Unfortunately, the odds say my number must be about up. With all these
serious disasters striking all over the country (and the world), I'm
going to feel the effects, and soon.

Maybe even in ways I'd never imagined. Things like:
* Food shortages when gas prices make it too expensive to ship. My
backyard garden won't come close being enough for my family to live
off of for more than 2 days!
* Civil uprising due to hyperinflation - US debt makes this more and
more real every day.
* Oil shooting to $15/gallon (the scare from the BP spill could've
easily done this without government funding).
* Government Coup caused by the massive instability in our current
administration, after all every country has its limit.
* No clean water because the government can't run their power
plants. (Not such a far off idea unless we find many more fossil
fuels).

These very probable scenarios hit pretty close to home, and I'm not
ashamed to tell you, I was embarrassed.

The real world was looking me straight in the face, and me, a grown
man, had been pulling the covers over my head like a boy.

The fact I was risking my wife's and my kids' lives every day I didn't
do something, became like a splinter in my mind.

Then I stumbled on an idea that changed everything.

When I started, I didn't know:

But, it was hard. Having to admit to myself I didn't know how to
